Relais Terni Umbria RLSTR01

relais in Terni in  Umbria  4stelle

The property is situated a few kilometres from Terni. It still belongs to the original family and has kept its character as a dynastic residence. It stands inside the medieval town of Amelia, which retains the charm of a town from a bygone age, with narrow streets lined with artisan workshops, shops and restaurants serving local dishes. Stepping through the doorway and crossing the atrium, one looks out on to the garden and olive groves that extend over an area of 10,000 m² to the polygonal walls, offering an unparalleled view of the Amerina countryside. The original floors show their five centuries of history. The wonderful grand staircase leads to the piano nobile, where there are two chestnut wood-panelled ceilings of exceptional solemnity and power. The Salon, with its pictorial cornice frieze, was completed for a wedding.  The piano nobile is composed of two other large rooms--the Emperor's Room, decorated with neoclassical grotesques painted on fabric, and the Cardinal's Room, covered in antique red damask fabric and boasting a rare 17th century chandelier--and four exclusive and elegant bedrooms: The red room dedicated to Caterina de' Medici, furnished in the Renaissance style; the pink room, or Bishop's room, with an elegant bathroom inside an antique closet; the green room, dedicated to Cavaliere Bartolomeo II; and the yellow room or room of the Muses. The centuries-old kitchen is used as a breakfast room and guests may also use the reading room with satellite TV.

The facility

The hotel has 4 rooms. These are all located on the piano nobile and decorated with antique furnishings: the room of the Muses has a ceiling decorated with cloth painted in the 19th century and furnishings inspired by the arts; it is equipped with private bath and shower. The Caterina de’ Medici room, with its decorated wood-panelled ceiling and furnished in the neo-Renaissance style, has a comfortable bathroom with a tub. The Bishop's room, dedicated to Bartolomeo I, Bishop of Amelia, offers an unusual and elegant bathroom inside an antique closet, and the Knight's room, dedicated to Bartolomeo IV, Knight of St Stephen, adjoining the Caterina de' Medici room, can be united with this and form a suite. The palazzo has wireless internet connection for your digital devices.

Activities and surroundings

Within a radius of about 50 km you can find towns full of history and places of incredible beauty in natural surroundings in "the green heart of Italy". Going north you come to Lugnano, a little town with a splendid Romanic church, La Collegiata (12th century); Narni, the town that gave inspiration to C.S. Lewis for the famous stories, The Chronicles of Narnia, now a series of films; Spoleto, made famous by its Festival of Two Worlds; Orvieto with its imposing cathedral, its wines and the famous St Patrick's Well, designed by Antonio da Sangallo; Terni, the city of Saint Valentine, an industrial town but characterised by the Marmore Falls, the highest in Europe and the charming Piediluco Lake, overlooked by the ruins of the castle belonging to the Pojani family. In the late 1970s a fossilized forest dating from more than two million years ago was discovered near the little town of Avigliano Umbro and this can now be visited at the Dunarobba paleontological site ( Continuing along the E45 highway you come to Perugia, with its museums and churches, Gubbio with its towers and, above all, Assisi, home of St Francis and emblem of spirituality.
